Wonder and Meaning in the Universe: A Songwriting Workshop with Jonas Friddle and Luke Leisman

Three evenings of song writing, wonder, and connecting with the universe!
Over the course of the three workshop sessions Luke will present and moderate discussions on various inspiring astronomy topics, and Jonas will lead the group through writing exercises that turn questions and insights into song lyrics. The goal is to create a personal writing routine that can help process the world around us and communicate our experience to others. Both experienced writers and first timers are welcome!
Participants leave with a finished song — and an invitation to perform it at Banjo Astro After Dark. You’ll also get early access to the upcoming BAAD book, notes to take home, and a fully personalized experience!

Songs and Science Retreat
May 15-17, 2026 at White Oak Savanna
Join us for Songs & Science, a three-day retreat celebrating creativity in nature. Write songs under open skies, explore the wonders of the cosmos, and connect art and discovery through workshops, performances, and hands-on science. Participants in the retreat will have the option to present work at future Banjo Astro After Dark events! Cost is $40 for the weekend, $20 for camping.
